I'm just getting into dub and want to get a few Lee Perry LPs. Which should I get first. Thanks for your time.
Depends how much you want to spend and whether you would like to buy vinyl or cd's.
The best starter for cd's or itunes is Arkology. The 3 CD set is the best starter compilation.
I'd also recommend some other things for Vinyl or CD like The Heart of the Congos LP by the Congos, Born in the Sky, Divine Madness, Definitely.
Theres so much good Lee Perry music out there it really is a big can of worms you are opening. The heartbeat compilations, Upsetter shop volume 1 and 2 and Cutting Razor are pretty good.
Alot of people start with Roast Fish, Collie Weed and Cornbread LP.
If you want to go older like rocksteady era you could try The self titled Upsetter LP on Trojan.
Party Time by the Heptones is a good place to start, and readily available.
Harder stuff to find would be the To Be a Lover LP by George Faith.
Max Romeo War in a Babylon is a great starter too and readily available.
All of these have some tracks on Arkology too for the most part.
I reckon time boom and secret laborotory might be good starting points.
it was time boom that did it for me, i was a single track rock/punk/grunge head, and my friend played time boom to me and it changed my life for ever. perhaps growing up in thatchers britain in the 70s and 80s contributed to this as well.
Augustus Pablo Meets Lee Perry At The Black Ark is a great collaboration album.
Lee Perry - Reggae Greats has some nice tunes produced by lee perry
and i have to mention Give me power. which i have playing at the moment!!
